Design Brief

The Complete City Imagined

Since 2017, the Portland Society for Architecture have been using blank maps of Portland, Maine as a tool to collect comments and ideas about and for the city. Ideas to keep and preserve what we love, to talk about what we dislike, and to find and imagine the opportunities in our built environment. With over 350 submissions, the maps are honest, wildly imaginative, and extremely inspiring.

THE CHALLENGE

THE COMPLETE CITY: IMAGINED

PSA would like to invite you to use these maps as inspiration to create a compelling and engaging image of how Portland, Maine can develop and thrive as a “Complete City.” The images hope to inspire future planning and development by visualizing ideas that came directly from Portland citizens and to capture its potential in the most spectacular way possible. Each submission must reference at least one of the maps collected to date from our website.
